Battle - where the course of English history was changed
Come visit the place where the historic Battle of Hastings was fought, the town of Battle. In 1066 William the Conqueror defeated Harold the Saxon king in the town, changing the course of English history. The town was constructed around the Abbey of St. Martin and now the ruins are a tourist attraction. The high altar is believed to have been put on the exact place where Harold fell. We have a new cafe/ takeaway this year with an interesting menu We are ideally placed for easy access to the coast, just 20 mins away or 10 minutes to the Southdowns and beautiful walking. Arundel with it's castle, Chichester and Goodwood are all close by. Brighton with all it's history and shops is 40mins away. Goodwood, Chichester, Arundel and Brighton all have festivals through the summer. We are open all year round.
