Canterbury - a city steeped in history

Enjoy a holiday in the historic cathedral city of Canterbury. The city dates back to 597 AD when the Canterbury Cathedral was founded. This cultured city features museums, 3 universities, a thriving retail hub, fairs, luxury hotels, fine restaurants serving food from around the globe, cafés and welcoming pubs. There are both guided tours and audio walking tours to learn about the city's history. The Canterbury Cathedral is the Mother Church of the worldwide Anglican Communion and the site of Archbishop Thomas Becket's martyrdom. It has been welcoming visitors since the time of medieval pilgrimages. The Canterbury Cathedral houses a Romanesque Crypt, a 12th century Quire and a 14th century nave. There are some lovely medieval stained glass windows that depict miracles and royal connections. Other great ruins in Canterbury include the ancient ruins of St. Augustine's Abbey and St. Martin's Church, which form Canterbury's UNESCO World Heritage Site. Come and enjoy history in Canterbury.
