Whitstable - traditional seaside charms and rich maritime history

Enjoy the traditional seaside resort of Whitstable. The town has a thriving arts culture and a rich maritime history. It is best known for its oysters, which remain an important part of the town's character. In July the town celebrates this heritage by holding an Oyster Festival. Visitors can enjoy oysters and other sea delicacies in the town's restaurants and pubs or buy them from the fish market on the harbour. Whitstable's connection to the sea extends to water sports, which are extremely popular in town. During the summer water skiing championships are held. Whitstable boasts beach huts, golf courses, indoor and outdoor bowling, tennis, independent craft and gift shops, galleries, delicatessens and fashion shops. The town is almost completely flat, making it easy to explore. Visitors can walk along the promenade to take in some bracing sea air, or visit the wide ridge of shingle called The Street to see a marvellous views of Whitstable's skyline. Seaside fun awaits in Whitstable.
