Rye in Suffolk - one of England's best preserved medieval towns

Explore Rye, one of the best preserved medieval towns in England. Rye is home to the beautiful cobbled Mermaid Street, the grand Norman church of St. Mary’s, many specialist shops and a thriving fishing fleet. Rye seems suspended in time with its preserved, historic houses that come from medieval, Tudor and Georgian times. The town is little enough that visitors can explore all of the key places of interest within a few days, but other less well known treasures make longer stays enjoyable. Rye’s famous Mermaid Inn was once the haunt of a gang of notorious smugglers called the Hawkhurst Gang. Other attractions include Camber Castle, which was built by Henry VII and Ypres Tower, which was built in 1249 to defend the town. There is so much to do in this historical, fascinating town that visitors will want to extend their stay to take in all that the town has to offer.
